What Watching the Progress of This Relationship Reminded Me:

• Even though I loved a lot of characters in BMW, Angela was the one character I not only loved but also wanted to be.
• Shawn and Angela’s relationship is one of my all time favorite representations of interracial dating (both because of the characters as individuals and because of the acceptance of their relationship by everyone around them).
• Dang, that girl rocks natural hair!
• Angela’s essay, “Maintaining Black Identity with Three Very White Friends” probably sums up a good portion of my life.
• As a kid, I never had crushes on anyone in BMW, but now that I’m older, I think I could potentially really dig college-era Shawn.
• The fact that Angela is an army brat too makes me love her twenty times more.
• One of the things that probably unconsciously registered with me as a kid about Angela was that she got one of the things I wanted most. She came into Cory, Shawn, and Topanga’s lives after they had known each other forever and was still accepted and embraced into their friend circle easily. Growing up, whenever I stepped foot into a new school, that’s all I wanted. To be just as accepted as everyone else even though in some ways I wasn’t like everyone else. Even though I hadn’t been around forever.
